After celebrating its seventh year in business this past October, Feathers Boutique still remains one of the the premiere places to shop for ladies vintage clothing in Austin. Somehow, owners Masha Poloskova and Emily Hoover have managed to acquire some of the most chic vintage wear around town. I think it is because they value quality and are serious about appraisal. Only clean, well-taken care of duds line their racks. They also seek out truly unique pieces not just from our region, but from around the world. Believe me, check the tags.
On numerous occasions, I have gone there looking for the perfect attire for parties, photo shoots and countless other events. My favorite find thus far is a blue, velour dress. It has a sassy split up the side and three lines of rhinestones that appear to rise out of the split as if by magic. I have also seen, and regrettably not purchased, other stellar apparel there including a velvet embroidered vest, a well-made patchwork coat and a little black dress with large, mesh sleeves, reminiscent of a inverness cape (strange, but oh so pretty).
Shop decor and atmosphere must also be a key to the store’s success. Everything is well-placed and orderly. It is small, but has this “witch in the wardrobe” kind of appeal; step inside and you will find there are many precious treasures to behold. Other wonderful things to be sold there include unique designer sunglasses, handmade jewelry, and a nice assortment of handbags.
