Ramen del Barrio: A Food Rec You Won’t Want to Skip

Austin is brimming with delicious, highly rated restaurants, and foodies, visitors, and locals alike are always looking for their next great meal. Ramen del Barrio is a must-try: it brings traditional ramen together with bold Mexican flavors. The menu features dishes like carnitas tonkotsu, chilaquiles-men, yaki-tacos de pastor, tostadas de atún, and more.

After its original stall in Hana World Market closed, Ramen del Barrio’s long-awaited brick-and-mortar location finally opened in July 2026 near the Domain in North Austin. With its Michelin-star reputation, it’s no surprise this popular ramen spot often has a line out the door.

A couple of weeks ago, on a Sunday evening, I got to try it with my family. They arrived about 15 minutes before I did and held our place in line. They said the line moved quickly, and we were seated around 7 p.m. Still, be prepared to wait whenever you visit—this place is popular at all hours. The interior is beautifully decorated, but it’s on the smaller side. Since we were a party of six, we sat outside, where there was more room.

I ordered the classic carnitas tonkotsu, while my family tried the chilaquiles-men, pastor tacos, pozole tonkotsu, and mole tsukemen. We also ordered Mexican Cokes and yuzu-jalapeño margaritas. We were blown away by how comforting the Mexican flavors were alongside the richness of the ramen. It was a combination I’d never imagined, and it was absolutely delicious—as if these flavors were meant to go together!

If it’s your first time, I recommend starting with the classic carnitas tonkotsu and a Mexican Coke. If you’re not in the mood for ramen broth, try the chilaquiles-men, which comes with dry noodles. The tostadas are another good option: think small, crispy pizzas without the Italian toppings. There’s also a great selection of tacos.

If you’re looking for a popular, highly rated restaurant, give Ramen Del Barrio a try. I think you’ll love it, and the wait is well worth it!
